Forest Park (25-3) v. Frankton (23-5) | Approx. 12:45 PM EST
Class 2A was crowded with a multitude of heavy hitters including North Knox, University, Heritage Christian, Tipton, and Winchester Community. Forest Park seemed to rise above the rest making their way through tough competition in regionals and semi-state. Now head coach Tony Hausenor will compete in his most crucial game of the season.
It is no surprise that tensions are high in Ferdinand as Forest Park heads to their first state championship since 2000. Junior Lydia Betz told us “Our community is amazing. Ranger Nation has never been stronger. We have one of the best support systems around. We know that Ranger Nation is going to show up Saturday, and make this experience special.” Lydia Betz has proven herself as an x-factor on both ends of the court as well as submitting herself as a leader on FP’s Girls Basketball Squad. Amber Tretter is another name to note with her impressive performance leading the team in points (17) at semi-state against the University Trailblazers. Her dominant play paved the way for a state championship run.
Frankton defeated tough competition in the postseason handing Winchester Community their second loss of the season in regionals and a narrow 35-34 victory over Fairfield in semi-state. Standing at 23-5, the Eagles are hopeful to redeem an exasperating loss against Linton-Stockton in 2020’s IHSAA Class 2A championship.
Advancing the championship charge for Frankton is Senior Lauryn Bates. Bates leads the team in assists, steals, and points per game with her impressive 400 point season. On both sides of the ball, Sophomore Emma Sperry has dominated. She’s second on the team in points (294), first on the team in rebounds (193), and second on the team in blocks (8). Sperry just recently won 3CMedia’s player of the week with her impressive 15 points, 9 rebound game against Fairfield. Now, the girls will try everything in their power to continue their postseason success.
