With the impending postseason becoming imminent, schools across Indiana are taking their final measures to prepare. For Lawrence North, they have the opportunity to put a large dent in the playoff race if they can finish this season out with momentum. The road wouldn’t be easy for the Wildcats as they take on the 15-win Ben Davis Giants. Ben Davis looks as if a championship run is just within their reach. Mr. Basketball candidate KJ Windham and 6’9” Zane Doughty have the capability to lead the Giants into glory when put in the right circumstances. During the Marion County Tournament, Ben Davis ran through Lawrence North 77-48 but has considerably slowed since then falling to North Central, Decatur Central, and Carmel.
Lawrence North started hot in the first quarter with a three-pointer from IU football commit Omar Cooper and a roof-raising dunk by IU basketball commit CJ Gunn. Within the expiring seconds of the first quarter, Lawrence North was up 18-8. The Wildcats held their lead throughout the second quarter including a short stint where they were up 22-8. With the help of Ben Davis’s Shaun Arnold, the Giants brought the game back to a deficit of 32-25 at halftime. Lawrence North successfully shut down star KJ Windham through the first half, but it was not long into the second half when Windham woke up with a corner three-point shot. Ben Davis managed to narrow the score to just three points yet gave up any progress they made after a CJ Gunn’s crushing fourth-quarter run. With less than a minute left in the contest, Gunn shot two free throws for Lawrence North giving him 31 points on the night. Lawrence North walked away with an impressive 63-52 victory.
