7.6 Inches of Snow Slows Down Hoops Action in Indy
Indy has never been short of surprises. As for this week, the bewildering amount of snow broke records for this time of the year. Though salt trucks and meteorologists were busier than ever, basketball suffered greatly due to cancellations. Nonetheless, high-intensity, nail-biting matchups carried on all across Indianapolis carried on!
IUPUI Picks Up Their Second-Win of the Year
It’s no secret that IUPUI has struggled this season in the victory column. Yet a late-season victory over East-West University can be as encouraging as winning a championship game for the Jaguars! IUPUI’s sophomore Bakari LaStrap led the team in points with 19. He was just 1 of 5 players that entered the double-digit mark in points scored for IUPUI.
Park Tudor Pulls Out Narrow Victory Over Heritage Christian
Heritage Christian pulled ahead with a quick lead in the first half, but Park Tudor managed to narrow it down to a 31-25 deficit at halftime. Park Tudor held the lead at the end of the third quarter, and with the Eagles Purdue commit, Myles Colvin fouled out, the Panthers rolled to a 50-47 win. Park Tudor’s Jermaine Coleman 15 points in the matchup while Jordan Bowles scored 11 with 7 assists per Brandon Ramsey.
Crispus Attucks Spoils Brownsburg’s Revenge Story
Last week, it looked as if Brownsburg was destined to receive their “long-desired revenge” over Crispus Attucks. We mentioned that Crispus Attucks has “shown to be a sneaky impressive team” which foreshadowed what was soon to come for the Tigers. Latrell Williams led the way for Crispus Attucks to a 65-62 victory with 23-points. The game was filled with let-downs for Brownsburg, but not every aspect was discouraging as Kanon Catchings went 4 of 5 shooting free’s.
Floyd Central Earns an Upset Victory Over Cathedral
No. 4 ranked Cathedral traveled down south to No. 18 Floyd Central in a star-filled matchup. Unfortunately for the Fighting Irish, it was a long ride home when the Highlanders came through with a 48-46. With 7’0” C/F Wesley Celichowski leading the charge, Floyd Central pulled ahead at the last second to earn an impressive win over Cathedral. Wesley mentioned to me, “This win gave us recognition in the state for the hard work we have put in so far this season and gives us confidence for the remainder of the season.”
